This collection contains 897 photographs in 6 volumes (in cases), 3 boxes, and 1 oversize box, encompassing the years ca. 1844-1962. Most of the photographs in the collection are portrait photographs of various members of the Wigglesworth, Dixwell, and Goddard families. Family members represented include Henrietta May Goddard Wigglesworth, George Wigglesworth, Mary Catherine Dixwell Wigglesworth, Epes Sargent Dixwell, and Mary Ingersoll Bowditch Dixwell, among many others. The collection also includes photographs of various Wigglesworth family homes in Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, and Salem, Mass.; commercial photographs of the Boston Fire of 1872; photographs of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair taken by Alice Curtis; of the 1895 200th Anniversary celebration in Manchester, Mass.; and of manuscripts, artifacts, and artwork owned by the Wigglesworth family. There are also two albums of commercial landscape photographs collected by the Dixwell family during their travels in Europe during 1872-1873 and one album of cyanotypes taken by Epes Sargent Dixwell ca. 1880-1890. Photographers include Epes Sargent Dixwell and Alice Curtis, as well commercial photographers John Adams Whipple, James Wallace Black, Augustus Marshall, Antoine Sonrel, Allen & Rowell and the Notman Photographic Co. (all of Boston, Mass.), among many others. The collection includes ambrotypes, daguerreotypes, cartes de visite, cabinet cards, cyanotypes, tintypes, stereographs, film photonegatives, photomechanicals, and postcards. Most of the photographs are black and white.
